Well done to Liam Dale – the Somerset Trainee of the Year! His fantastic feat at the recent Grow Somerset Talent Awards is just the latest achievement in what’s been a brilliant year for the 21-year-old from Taunton.

Liam was one of the first group of young people to undertake the pilot of Hinkley Point C’s trailblazing Supported Traineeship programme. The 10-week placement included employment skills training from job coaches, and supported work experience in a variety of roles provided by Bylor, HOST, G4S FM, EDF Energy and Somerset Larder.

Not only was Liam the first of the group to pass his Health, Safety and Environment test, he went on to pass his interview with flying colours too. He now works full time as a member of the catering team at HOST’s Hinkley Campus accommodation.

Cora Heal, Early Skills Coordinator, said: “It’s wonderful news. Liam’s so positive, enthusiastic, committed and supportive of his fellow colleagues. The success of this traineeship has come from positive and ambitious collaboration from the Hinkley Point C team.”

22-year-old Molly Williams (pictured), was also nominated for the Somerset Trainee of the Year award. She is now employed at HOST as a Front of House Assistant.

How is Hinkley Point C benefiting the local community?

Alongside Hinkley Point C’s vital role in providing the country with secure low-carbon electricity, I’m very proud of the significant benefits we provide to our local communities. Maximising the benefits of Hinkley Point C has been a long term collaborative effort, but one which I’m confident will also lead to much longer term opportunity for people and businesses across Somerset and the Sout West.

Supporting Local Tourism - Free Beach Parking at Brean and Berrow this Summer

Hinkley Point C is helping to make a trip to the seaside a little more affordable this summer by providing free parking at both Brean and Berrow beach car parks. Available throughout the school holidays and into October, the initiative is part of Hinkley Point C’s support for tourism businesses in Brean. The initiative has already proved extremely successful with visitors to the beach more than double the number seen in July last year.
