International Women’s Day – Construction and Engineering Programme

By Hinkley Point C media team | Posted March 08, 2017

HPC’s education programme 'Inspire' has teamed up with Bridgwater and Taunton College to deliver a Challenge for Women programme.

The programme, designed to allow female students from Bridgwater and the surrounding areas to learn about the construction and engineering industries, aims to encourage women into these careers.

Experiencing different trades and meeting role models

Each school year, starting in Year 8 and then moving progressively through years 9, 10 and 11, students attend events to experience different trades and meet industry role models.

The most recent student cohort, now in Year 10, was welcomed back last week for their second year of the programme.

Building Bungalows

Students from Bridgwater College Academy, Haygrove School, Broadoak Mathematics and Computing College and Worle Community School worked in teams to ‘Build a Bungalow’ focusing on some specific construction trades

Taking on roles relating to the timber structure, bricklaying, and electrical systems, small teams were formed with the ultimate goal of building a bungalow.

International Women’s Day

During the day the students were also encouraged to consider how this year’s International Women’s Day and its campaign #BeBoldForChange could relate to them:
