Letter to the Hunterston Site Stakeholder group - 10 December 2019

10 December 2019

Dear SSG Member,

As a member of our community, I believe it is important to keep you updated on any developments at the power station.

As I wrote to tell you last month, Reactor 4 at Hunterston will come offline today, 10 December, to carry out further graphite inspections and report the results to the independent nuclear safety regulator, ONR.

Reactor 4 has had a successful period of safe and reliable production since it returned to service on 25 August 2019. Following the current inspections, we aim to return the unit to service on 13 March 2020.

The regulator’s assessment of the Hunterston Reactor 3 safety case continues and we have revised our latest expectation for its return to service to 28 February 2020 – previously we expected it to return it on 15 January.

As always, market rules require us to give our most likely view of return to service dates and if these change, I will let you know.

I hope this information is useful to you as a member of the Site Stakeholder Group. Should you wish to ask any questions please feel free to ring the Station on 01294 826000 and ask for our Communications Officer, Nikki Thomson.

Paul Forrest

Station Director
