Can I get a new boiler grant?

In UK there's a range of government support, grants and schemes available to help you get a new boiler. Even if you're not eligible for government support, there are other schemes and finance options that can help you on your way to a warmer home.

The Energy Saving Trusts estimates that buying and fitting a new boiler with thermostatic valves typically costs around £2,300. And as heating makes up about 55% of the average household energy bill, you cut over £100 from your energy bills each year with a new, more energy-efficient boiler.

Boiler scrappage schemes

The government boiler scrappage scheme was launched in 2010 to give 125,000 government boiler grants to eligible households.

The vouchers were snapped up within a few months, and the scrappage scheme for boilers was closed within a few months.

Some suppliers still offer a similar scrap boiler scheme of their own, but it's best to get a few quotes before taking up any offer. Otherwise, you could end up paying more for your new boiler than you need to – even with the scrappage discount.

Remember to repay any 0% loan or credit card deal off in full before the end of the agreed period – you don't want to pay the high-interest rates that usually kick in after the 0% period ends.
