What does my electricity prepayment meter display tell me?

Summary

  • An electricity prepayment meter will give you information about:
  • - the credit and debt on your meter
    - the regular payments that we take from your meter
    - your energy rates and prices.

  • You'll generally get all the information you need from just a dozen of all the available screens (see table below).
  • Some meters identify each screen with a letter; others just give you a title that describes what you're seeing on the screen.
  • To scroll through to the different screens, just keep pressing the blue button on your meter.
  • You'll need your key in the meter to access some of the screens (see table below).
  • This information is for prepayment meters only; it's not for pay-as-you-go smart meters.

What meter display screens do I need to know about?

The table below gives you the letter codes that identify the screens of many electricity prepayment meters. If your meter doesn't display letter codes, have a look at the title on the screen – it'll tell you what you're looking at.

  • If you see the word 'DEBT', the number on the screen tells you how much debt you're in after using all your emergency credit, including any missed standing charges and instalment plan payments; if you've used any friendly non-disconnect energy, this will also be included
  • If you haven't used emergency credit, the number under 'DEBT' tells you how much debt you're in because you didn't have enough credit to cover your standing charges or instalment plan payment; if you've used any friendly non-disconnect energy, this will also be included
