Can I get my meter moved?

Electricity

Can I move my electricity meter?

If your electricity meter is inside your property it may be possible for us to move your meter. We may look to move your meter approximately 1 to 3 feet up, down, left, or right from its current position on the same facing wall but is dependent on the available length plus flexibility of the current cable as well as where you want the meter to go.

Are there any restrictions to moving my meter?

There are times where we are unable to move your electricity meter. If your meter is located above a front door or located in an cupboard/surrounded by shelves it may not be possible for us to relocate the meter.  This will again depend on where you want the meter to go and the nature of the obstruction.

What do I do if EDF can’t move my meter?

If we are unable to move your electricity meter due to an obstruction you may need to resite the existing incoming service equipment. This means you will need to move the power cable leading from the street into the property together with the mains fuse. This work is the responsibility of the local power network in your area. You can contact us on 0333 200 5100 for information on which network you need to contact. Your local network may also charge for any service work required.

Is there a cost to move my meter?

There is a charge to move your meter. The charge is £80 and is payable by debit or credit card prior to booking the appointment. In certain circumstances it may be possible to move your meter free of charge – you can discuss this with our customer service representatives.

What if I want to move my meter outside?

If you are looking to move your meter from inside your property to a different wall or to an external outside position you will need to contact your local network who will relocate the incoming supply cable and main fuse. They will provide a quotation for the work required and offer a provisional date.

Gas

Can I move my gas meter?

If your gas meter is internal then we may be able to move your gas meter within 1 metre on the same facing wall depending on the current meter location and pipe restrictions. We can only move the meter within the allowance of the flexible pipe and there can be no obstructions from the current position to new position, i.e cupboard, shelves etc. This appointment carries an £80 charge which would be paid up front when scheduling the appointment. You may be asked to provide a photograph of the meter and surrounding area to establish whether the appointment would be possible. Please contact our customer services team on 0333 2005 100.

Are there any restrictions to moving my meter?

If you require your gas meter to be moved to a different facing wall or more than 1 metre then this would require a service alteration via your local gas network. They may be able to move the meter to the new service position also, however if they cannot move the meter please contact us.
