What are the changes?
In the UK, the government plans to install smart meters in all homes across England, Scotland and Wales by 2020 and these will provide consumers with greater information on their energy usage.
In the standard licence conditions and statement of terms for all EDF Energy FiT customers, there is a requirement for the export tariff to be paid where it is ‘possible and practical to measure’ export. The technical specification for EDF Energy smart meters includes the ability to measure exported electricity.
How will I be impacted?
For the majority of Feed-in Tariff customers, readings are provided manually and payment made for energy generated. An additional deemed export payment is made and this is based on the generated energy i.e. Deemed at 50% of generation for solar PV, Wind, micro-CHP and Anaerobic Digestion. Deemed is at 75% of generation for hydro.
If you have a smart meter installed you'll be required to read your smart meter just like your generation meter to obtain your export read. Both readings can be submitted online or via our automated telephone service 0333 009 7009.
When do I need to submit an export meter read?
We're taking a measured approached for the change from Deemed to Metered and customers will be contacted in due course. Full details and expectations will be provided to comply with the electricity standard licence conditions and Feed-in Tariff statement of terms.
