World climate day: helping small businesses grow their business sustainably

By Joe - Small Business Marketing | Posted March 23, 2026

23rd March is World Climate Day, the perfect time to celebrate the incredible work small businesses across Britain are doing to be sustainable and how EDF can help. For us supporting business sustainability is an everyday commitment and we do this by helping to save cash and carbon and offering long term solutions.

Across the UK, small businesses are already proving that sustainability and growth go hand in hand. With the right tools, advice and technologies, making meaningful progress is more achievable than ever.

🌍Why is sustainability important for small businesses?

Sustainability has become a key part of how successful small businesses operate. Shaping everything from customer expectations to long‑term financial resilience. While it is still important to focus on the environmental factors, there are also an array of benefits for small businesses who move to more sustainable methods. Operating sustainably can help businesses to reduce costs, strengthen their reputation, and stay competitive in a rapidly changing market.

Energy use is an area where small businesses can start saving immediately. Upgrading equipment and adopting smart, energy saving behaviours can save cash and carbon which can bring down your business’ outgoings. These upgrades could be solar panels, electric vehicles or smart meters. These changes help you manage your energy and gain control in an unpredictable market.

Sustainability isn’t only about reducing energy consumption. It’s about building a business that can grow. That includes adopting low-carbon technologies, exploring renewable energy options and making every day operational choices that support long-term growth. These steps help small businesses become more adaptable, efficient and drive towards the UK’s journey to net zero.
