Celebrating Somerset’s beautiful coastal landscape and wildlife

Somerset Wildlife Trust has a fantastic year of events ahead as part of the Somerset’s Brilliant Coast Programme. Part-funded by the HPC Community Impact Mitigation fund, the scheme has been designed to deliver community engagement, education and volunteering initiatives and aims to celebrate Somerset’s beautiful coastal landscape and its wildlife.

The project has three different strands: Curious Coast; Parish Shores and Wild Beach.

The Curious Coast strand focuses on events, inspiring local people to learn more about Somerset’s coastline and get involved in its conservation. Activities include:

  • Beach Cleans
  • Guided Walks
  • SeaWatch Surveys

Anyone is welcome to go along to the events, which take place across Somerset. To find out more, visit the Somerset Wildlife Trust website.

Alternatively, if you’re interested in finding out more about school engagement, take a look into the Wild Beach strand. This part of the programme works with local schools and youth groups to connect children with nature through outdoor learning opportunities.

Communities can also engage in the programme through the Parish Shores strand, a way for residents to come together and take ownership of protecting their local coast.

Keep an eye out in our next edition of Plugged in for more information on the work Somerset Wildlife Trust are doing with their funding, plus other local initiatives.
