Meet the contractor: Doosan Babcock
Tracey Rundell, head of communications at Doosan Babcock, talks to Young HPC about what they do and upcoming apprenticeships at Hinkley Point C.
Q. Tell us more about Doosan Babcock…
A. We’ve been involved in engineering design, procurement, manufacturing and site installation services in the nuclear industry for more than 65 years… In fact, we worked on the construction of the UK’s first nuclear station!
Q. How is Doosan Babcock involved in the project?
A. Doosan Babcock is part of the MEH (Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC) alliance, and we’ll be installing mechanical and nuclear HVAC (Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning) systems on site.
Q. What apprenticeship opportunities are there with Doosan Babcock?
A. We are currently recruiting for apprentices in welding, erecting/rigging, pipe fitting and project controls. There are many opportunities for individuals who are committed and enthusiastic about developing a career in the nuclear industry.
Q. What skills and behaviours do you look for?
A. The nuclear environment can be highly pressurised, due to its nature. Therefore, we are seeking candidates who have a can-do spirit, a willingness to learn and a maturity about operating in sensitive environments.
