Championing a greener future through innovation at Low Carbon Scotland

By Talk Power Team | Posted April 11, 2018

EDF Energy was able to showcase our expertise in electric vehicle, smart energy and wind energy capabilities at the Low Carbon Scotland event in Edinburgh on 15 March. Beatrice Bigois and Simone Rossi both spoke at the event, covering our business in Scotland, our innovation projects and about our long term investment in the future.

The event gave our key stakeholders the chance to find out how EDF Energy can work with them to realise their low carbon future. Nearly 250 people attended the conference at Dynamic Earth, in the heart of Edinburgh. They heard keynote speeches and a panel discussion and had the chance to visit stands staffed by experts which showcased the breadth of capabilities within EDF Energy and EDF Group.

Chief Executive Simone Rossi outlined how Scotland is a key area of investment and growth for EDF Energy. The company employs around 2,800 staff and contractors, contributes almost £400million to the Scottish economy each year and supplies more than half the country’s energy needs.

Customers MD Béatrice Bigois shared her views on how EDF Energy is using innovation to accelerate the transition to a sustainable, low carbon society through the development of new technologies and business models. MSP Paul Wheelhouse, Minister for Business, Innovation and Energy, said how much the Scottish Government valued EDF Energy’s contributions. He spoke of the importance of remote island wind projects and pledged to work with EDF Energy to press for the conditions which will make investment possible.

Professor Chris Rapley, from University College London, gave an address on “Climate Change – Avoiding the Unmanageable”, and a panel of experts discussed how innovation can deliver an affordable and reliable low-carbon energy future.

Employees from across EDF Energy and Company Makers were on hand to welcome guests and encourage them to visit stands showcasing a range of innovations. These included the latest thinking on smart energy use, electric vehicles, STEM projects, onshore and offshore wind and other ways to keep the lights on in a changing energy mix.
