Smart meter installations for your small business
This guide will help you prepare for your smart meter installation and understand what to expect on the day.
How to prepare for your smart meter installation
1. Make sure you're in
Ensure someone over 18 is aware of the appointment and is going to be there if you can't be present on site.
2. Get access to your meter
We need to be able to get to your meters easily. Make sure you have the key to access it if it's located in a cupboard or in a locked room.
3. Make appropriate arrangements
Your power will need to be turned off for up to 1 hour. Please ensure you make appropriate arrangements to allow the engineer to carry out the installation.
Tips for a smooth, hassle-free experience
- Ensure you've arranged meter access, if needed, and obtained any necessary keys. You'll need to make sure the area is clear, free from obstruction and has enough space for our installer to work
- If you won't be available for the appointment, make sure your business representative is informed about it
- Please ensure all necessary business adjustments are made, as the power will need to be temporarily turned off. We'll try to make as minimal disruption to your business as possible
What to expect on the day of install
- The engineer can arrive anytime during your allocated slot; so we'll aim to get in touch 30 minutes before we arrive
- The engineer may be from a different company, working on our behalf - they'll show you their ID
- Depending on your meter type your power may need to be off for up to 1 hour, but don't worry, we'll have you back on as soon as possible
