Selling your energy

Everything you need to know about how we can help you sell the electricity you generate.

We're proud to be Britain's largest buyer of renewable energy through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)*

These agreements allow energy generators to sell their power through an agreed structure and price, providing revenue certainty and control. We’re supporting UK generators to develop new renewable energy sources and facilitate routes to market, to deliver net zero to the UK grid.

What is a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)?

PPAs are contractual agreements between an energy generator, and an energy supplier. These allow generators to sell their energy directly to an energy buyer, like EDF, at an agreed price.

We offer a range of PPA types for generators of all sizes

We provide short-term PPAs, including fixed and index, and long-term PPAs, such as Contracts for Difference (CfDs) and Corporate PPAs (CPPAs), tailored to meet specific requirements. Our agreements cover all renewable technologies.

Renewable Certificates

There are two types of renewable energy certificates: Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs) and Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs), as well as incentive schemes. Knowing which certificates will suit your needs will help you to choose the best route to market.

Facilitating a Corporate PPA between Low Carbon and Lloyds Banking Group

All CPPAs need a credible and reliable balancing and shaping partner, and renewable developer Low Carbon have appointed EDF Business Solutions to do exactly that. We'll be balancing, shaping and sleeving the renewable energy from two of their new build UK solar projects into Lloyds Banking Group's supply contract.

Setting up a multi-party Corporate PPA for Tesco

We've worked with Tesco and their advisors to deliver a corporate PPA structure which supports the delivery of new renewable generation projects. Corporate PPAs like this one are contributing to Tesco moving towards their target of reaching carbon neutrality in their operations by 2035.

Securing a long-term supply of renewable energy through a Corporate PPA

Read about how Nestle connected their business to a remote wind farm through a Corporate PPA and are using the energy to power nearly half the electricity Nestle will use for the next 15 years.
