Report into the collapse of a silo at HPC site

By Hinkley Point C media team | Posted May 13, 2021

On 10 June 2020 a Ground Granulated Blast-furnace Slag silo – part of the concrete production facilities at Hinkley Point C - collapsed suddenly and without warning. Following an extensive investigation, the cause of the collapse has been identified and the learnings are being shared with our regulator and the wider industry to avoid such an event occurring elsewhere. The silo was a temporary structure used in construction and not a permanent part of the power station.

In order to help public understanding of the issue we have produced a learning brief, which explains what happened and the steps being taken to learn from the event.
