EDF as your Meter Operator (MOp)

Reliable metering. Seamless operations. Complete control.

Why do I need a Meter Operator?

Your Meter Operator (MOp) is responsible for fitting, operating and maintaining your electricity meter(s). So if something goes wrong, you can be sure that your meters can be fixed quickly and properly to limit disruption to your business.

If you’re not sure if you have one or not, you may be on what’s called a “default” MOp contract. These are usually more expensive, so it’s best to contact your energy supplier to find out who your Meter Operator is and their contact details.

Why choose EDF as your Meter Operator?

What does your Meter Operator do?

Your MOp manages your electricity meters throughout their lifecycle. They:

  • Select the right meters for import or export metering
  • Install safe, code-compliant meters
  • Move meters safely to meet health, safety, or operational needs
  • Monitor and maintain meters proactively
  • Keep meters compliant with industry standards
  • Provide clear, accurate consumption data for billing and reporting

How it works

Working with a Meter Operator is straightforward and flexible:

  • Pay an annual fee: You pay your MOp in advance. The fee covers meter rental and ongoing operation and maintenance.
  • Manage independent contracts: Your supply contract and MOp agreement remain separate. You can use different providers and contract lengths.
  • Simplify with one MOP: Use a single MOp contract across all your sites to reduce administration.
  • Choose purchase or lease: Buy your meters outright or lease them from your MOp, who will install, operate, and maintain them throughout the contract.

This setup gives you control, transparency, and peace of mind, ensuring your metering infrastructure supports your operational and strategic goals.
