Bright future for EDF apprentices

Seven Torness workers are celebrating after graduating from their EDF apprenticeships.

Stewart Battison (26) from Coldingham, Amy Benson (22) from Edinburgh, Rhys Demianczuk (25) from Dunbar, Greg Ferguson (21) from Musselburgh, Grant Hoddinott (22) from Swinton, James Macfarlane (22) from Foulden and Grant Shiells (25) from Edinburgh were invited to receive their graduation certificates at a special socially distanced ceremony at the power station after successfully completing their four-year advanced modern apprenticeship with the company.

Tam Albishawi, Station Director, who was at the presentation, said: "Times are challenging for everyone just now so it’s good for us, as a station, to have something to celebrate.

"Many of EDF’s leadership team started off their careers as apprentices so the value of learning about the business as well as developing a trade is clearly invaluable.

"It gives me great pleasure and pride to see our apprentices develop during their time training.

"I would like to congratulate all of the graduates on their success and for being a credit to EDF, Torness and their communities. They have achieved so much over the past four years it is only right that we celebrate their achievements".

It was a double celebration for Stewart, after he was also named as Torness's apprentice of the year.

“It is a real honour being chosen as Torness apprentice of the year. I have thoroughly enjoyed the last four years and look forward to further developing my skills and being part of the mechanical team.”
