Footpath improvement in the local community

Somerset Infrastructure Alliance (SIA) recently completed works to the footpath around the Combwich Wharf refurbishment. Following bad weather the path was in poor condition, so SIA completed work to improve the underfoot conditions. By re-laying new stone, the path is now able to better drain water and is therefore safer for members of the public making use of it.  

A section of the path takes walkers up the flood embankment,  providing access to the river side. The team reduced the steepness of the access and laid stone, making it easier and safer for walkers to use.

Works were carried out in a way to minimise disruption to the local community, with many of the passers-by thanking the team for the improvements made to the footpath. Similarly, Otterhampton Parish Council thanked Hinkley Point C for completing a “more substantial repair” which made the footpath “safer and more accessible”.

Combwich isn’t the only area where SIA have been working hard. Over the past few weeks they’ve completed tree pruning at our associated development sites, including our park and rides and campus locations, as well as maintenance to the footpaths at the southern end of site.

Somerset Infrastructure Alliance was formed to provide the Infrastructure and Maintenance contract to Hinkley Point C and it associated development areas. Headed up by lead alliance partner Skanska Infrastructure Services and supported by locally based suppliers Forest Traffic Services and RK Bell Ltd, SIA currently employee over 100 skilled staff to successfully deliver a variety of maintenance and infrastructure improvement works to ensure that the Hinkley Point C construction site is managed in a safe, secure and efficient way.

SIA also work closely with local companies Greenslade Grounds Maintenance and Sedgemoor Tree services to deliver landscape maintenance and improvement works for the project.
