Hinkley Point C pledges to help young people prepare for world of work

Hinkley Point C has signed up to help young people in the Heart of the South West prepare for the fast-changing world of work.

Along with engineering specialists Babcock International, we have partnered with The Careers & Enterprise Company and the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to become a ‘Cornerstone Employer’ in the Heart of the South West Careers Hub. This means we will invest time and resources to support local schools and colleges to inspire the next generation, whilst also providing careers advice and guidance.

Research shows that young people who have regular, meaningful interactions with employers while at school are less likely to be NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) when they leave. Together we will ensure that all young people across the region have access to regular, meaningful engagement with employers reflecting the priority sectors across Devon, Somerset, Plymouth and Torbay and gain the vital work experience they need to help them make informed choices about their futures.

As part of our wider support for the region, Hinkley Point C is already making a significant difference to young people as part of our existing commitment to the West Somerset Opportunity Area Cornerstone community. Cornerstone Employers act as champions to encourage new businesses in the area to get involved in supporting schools and colleges, as well as encouraging our own staff to become volunteer ‘Enterprise Advisers’.
