New contracts have been awarded to three companies who’ll bring their global expertise to Hinkley Point C.

Technology giant Rolls-Royce will supply four diesel generator sets to provide back-up power to critical power station systems in the event of an unplanned outage.

The company has also signed a separate contract to supply heat exchangers for the nuclear island – and a team of 80 engineers and supply chain specialists in Barnwood, Derby and Warrington are currently working on the programmes.

Stuart Crooks, Hinkley Point C Managing Director, said: “This marks another significant step forward for the project. We’ve already signed more than £9.5 billion of contracts and this is further evidence of the positive impact the project is having on British jobs, skills and industrial capacity.”

Elsewhere, Japanese engineering experts Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) will be teaming up with world-leading Weir Engineering Services (WES) to design, manufacture, test and supply 34 pumps for the power station.

MHI will design and manufacture the pumps, while WES will handle project management, motors procurement, pre-installation testing, and pump sets delivery.
