Mental health support for apprentices

We’re looking after the mental health of our young apprentices with the help of local charity, In Charley’s Memory (ICM).

Thanks to a £10,000 grant from the Hinkley Point C Community Fund, the charity will be supporting our apprentices on site. It will provide help and advice at on site drop-in sessions in our Apprentice and Skills Hub, and through confidential one-to-one counselling sessions off site.

The Burnham-on-Sea-based charity was set up by Jo Clements four years ago to raise awareness of mental health in young people aged 11-25, after her son Charley took his own life aged 18.

Its volunteers are already helping thousands of local young people through talks in schools and mental health clinics, and will now be able to offer counselling to young people starting their careers at Hinkley Point C too. Family members of staff can also be supported, should they fall within the age bracket.

Dawn Carey, Chief Operations Officer for ICM, said: “Relocating for a new job can be challenging and there are a lot of people struggling with mental health issues. It’s fantastic that Hinkley Point C has faith in us to support the young people taking up apprenticeships on the project.”

Parking at Brean Beach

Supporting Local Tourism - Free Beach Parking at Brean and Berrow this Summer
Hinkley Point C is helping to make a trip to the seaside a little more affordable this summer by providing free parking at both Brean and Berrow beach car parks. Available throughout the school holidays and into October, the initiative is part of Hinkley Point C’s support for tourism businesses in Brean. The initiative has already proved extremely successful with visitors to the beach more than double the number seen in July last year.
