What is Carbon Cashback?
Carbon Cashback is a programme administered by Snugg. Customers who purchase solar panels or a heat pump through EDF may be able to receive payments when the carbon savings from their installation are converted into carbon credits.*
How it works
- Before your installation, use the referral link provided by EDF to pre-register with Snugg
- Install eligible solar panels or a heat pump through EDF and verify these in the Snugg platform
- Snugg uses smart meter data to measure changes in your home’s carbon emissions before and after installation
- Verified carbon reductions may be converted into carbon credits
- Eligible customers may be able to receive Carbon Cashback payments of up to £2,000 over 10 years, subject to eligibility criteria, programme terms and verified carbon reductions**
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the Carbon Cashback programme, customers must submit an enquiry for solar panels or a heat pump on or after 3 August 2026, and meet the programme's eligibility criteria, which include:
- Have eligible solar panels or a heat pump installed through EDF
- Have a working smart meter
- Have at least 12 months of electricity and gas smart meter data available before installation
- Consent to Snugg using their energy consumption data to assess and verify carbon reductions
For the full list of eligibility criteria, please refer to Snugg's website.
*Snugg uses smart meter data to measure changes in your home’s carbon emissions and assess whether you may be eligible for Carbon Cashback payments. Payments are subject to Snugg’s eligibility criteria and programme terms and conditions.
** Snugg’s Carbon Cashback programme is a project registered with Verra, the single biggest issuer of carbon credits, known as verified carbon units, globally. The methodology Snugg utilises has a project length of 5 years initially, followed by the possibility of two project period renewals of 5 years each. Therefore, the maximum possible crediting period for a single home is 15 years. 10 years is Snugg’s opinion of the most likely period a home enrolling in Carbon Cashback will be able to generate carbon credits and therefore receive payment. If you sell or let your home whilst enrolled in Carbon Cashback, you will no longer be able to generate carbon credits.
