Digital Badges for Young HPC members
Young HPC, the free programme to help young people aged 16-21 get into work, is now offering ‘Digital Badges’ that can be used to apply for jobs and apprenticeships. The nationally recognised badges show prospective employers what skills candidates have learned to help them get ready for work.
To earn them, Young HPC members are invited to attend workshops to pick up skills like CV writing and interview techniques. They’ll then be tested and if they pass, they earn a Digital Badge. The badges can be added to apprenticeship and job applications.
Meet Theo…
Theo joined Young HPC because he wanted to pursue a career on the project after school. Once he was a member, he took part in the free workshops on offer and signed up for new apprenticeship opportunities updates. As a result, he applied for a Level 3 Welding Apprenticeship with a HPC contractor. After successfully passing the assessment and interview stages, he is now looking forward to starting this apprenticeship in September.
I really enjoyed the Young HPC site tour I attended in February. The experiments at the Visitors Centre are a fun way of highlighting how nuclear works, and it was great to see HPC up close because it’s hard to imagine how big the site is until you see it. This event teaches a lot about nuclear and low carbon energy, so these Digital Badges are a great way for Young HPC members to prove what they’ve learned and have this recognised by future employers.
