Most local residents welcome EDF Energy's investment plans for Hinkley C

The majority of people in Sedgemoor, Taunton Deane and West Somerset, surveyed in a new poll, think that the £100 million of investment proposed by EDF Energy as part of its plans for a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point will have a positive impact on the area.

EDF Energy submits evidence to the Weightman Report

EDF Energy, the UK’s largest producer of low-carbon electricity, has made its submission to Dr Mike Weightman, HM Chief Inspector of Nuclear Installations, as part of his report on the implications for the UK nuclear industry of the incident at Fukushima.

All EDF Energy’s nuclear power stations are protected against the effects of seismic events. These measures are detailed in approved safety cases which are agreed with the regulator and cover all credible seismic events in the UK.

Announcement on Heysham 1 nuclear power station


EDF Energy’s Heysham 1 reactor 2 is now operating at around 90% of full load. Load has been reduced since October 2006 in order to reduce the surface temperature on an area within the reactor known as the hot box dome.
