Torness staff run for Kira

Three workers at EDF Energy’s Torness power station have gone the extra mile for charity. Edwin Wright, Garry Twist and Blair Hamilton recently ran all the way from Torness to Edinburgh Castle to raise more than £4,000 for Solving Kids Cancer.

Search begins for new Torness apprentices

Torness power station has started the search for apprentices to join EDF Energy next September.

During the autumn, staff from the power station will be visiting schools and colleges to promote the four-year training scheme. The Visitor Centre will also be hosting information sessions for those interested in becoming apprentices.

Open meeting for Torness power station

Torness power station already has a 5 star rated visitor centre and tour route but members of the public are being given the chance to find out even more about what happens at the East Lothian station. The EDF Energy owned site is holding an open meeting for the public. The session will take place at Halhill Sports Centre in Dunbar on Thursday 20 October at 18:00.

New generation of apprentices for Torness power station

Torness power station’s new generation of apprentices have started their careers with EDF Energy with a trip to the Lake District. The team building week was the culmination of a recruitment process which started last autumn. Hundreds of application forms were submitted and after a round of interviews and assessments 48 were selected to join stations across the EDF Energy fleet.

Heysham 2 ends record breaking run for planned maintenance shutdown

Heysham 2 nuclear power station’s record-breaking reactor has been taken out of service for a planned maintenance programme. One of the two units at the Lancashire station was turned off for planned maintenance today (Sept 16) after 940 days of continuous operation.

Lewis Wind Power buys Uisenis Wind Farm

Lewis Wind Power (LWP), a joint venture between Amec Foster Wheeler and EDF Energy Renewables has bought the Uisenis Wind Farm project on the Isle of Lewis. The wind farm has planning consent for the development of 45 turbines with a maximum capacity of 162 MW. This would be enough to power 124,000 homes and would be the biggest renewable energy development on the Western Isles.
