Suffolk students switched on to work
Hundreds of Suffolk students are hearing how they can make their dream career a reality thanks to Sizewell B staff.
Roger Barge, Apprentice Coordinator at Sizewell B, is making his way around schools and colleges in the county to talk about EDF Energy’s apprenticeship programme to ensure students are ready for the opportunities on offer.
In the last week Roger has visited Alde Valley High in Leiston and The Denes High School in Lowestoft as well as supporting the launch of the Skills Manifesto by the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership in Ipswich. This week Roger turns his attention to Suffolk One.
Niki Spatchett, Community Liaison Officer at Sizewell B, teamed up with Roger and Steven Pullen, a fourth year Sizewell B apprentice, at Alde Valley High to offer Sixth Formers an insight into what employers look for from new recruits.
Niki, a former Alde Valley High Student with over 27 years experience at Sizewell B said: “It was great to take part in the careers day at Alde Valley high. The students were really enthusiastic and keen to know just what they need to do to separate themselves out from the crowd in an interview.”
As well as visiting schools, Roger will also be available with a team of year 3 and 4 apprentices to answer questions about the apprenticeship scheme at the Sizewell B visitor centre on 7 December.
Presentations will be given at the Sizewell B visitors centre at 10.30am and 1.30pm on 7 December 2013. The station is asking for visitors to register in advance by contacting 01728 653974 or email Sizewellbtours@edf-energy.com.
Completion of the EDF Energy apprenticeship scheme leads to an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship Certificate in Engineering, having attained a BTEC and an NVQ Level 3, with those with the correct aptitude having the option to progress onto HNC.
Away from the classroom the apprentices will enjoy excellent sports and leisure facilities and also undertake an extensive life skills package, which includes some cultural visits to European cities.
