Somerset Business Delivering Excellence at Hinkley Point C

LOCAL businesses were recognised amongst the winners of this year’s Hinkley Point C Excellence Awards.  Now in their second year and held at Bridgwater’s McMillan theatre, they celebrate the successes, innovations and leadership of the teams and individuals working across the project.

22 awards were presented across categories representing important aspects of Hinkley Point C’s construction; safety, quality, innovation and sustainability, supply chain performance, technical innovation and individual success.

Nigel Cann, the project’s Programme and Construction Delivery Director, said; “2018 has been a year of huge progress for us with all our milestones achieved and the project on-schedule to complete the foundations of unit one next year. I am extremely proud to see so many people from Hinkley Point C’s fantastic team gathered together, especially those that represent our local partners from across Somerset who are making a huge difference to a nationally important project.”

Amongst awards for major UK suppliers such as UK Power Networks, BYLOR, Kier Bam and Premier Modular, companies from across the South West also took honours.

Best Safety Performance was won by the Construction Operations Management Alliance (COMA). This regionally based supplier consortia comprising of five companies, provides construction utilities to the project including electrical networks and support services. They have had zero Lost Time Injuries and have collectively raised the standard for safety across the site.

In a double triumph, Devon and Somerset based TCi scooped the best on site supplier and the outstanding leader award. The office fit out contractor has successfully delivered and installed all Furniture, Fittings & Equipment within the HPC welfare buildings. Judges recognised their commitment to apprenticeship support, there local work to encourage STEM subjects in schools and the innovative step to launch a 100% sustainable ECO desk.

The best local/regional partner was awarded to Bridgwater based HOST. As providers of accommodation and hospitality services to the Hinkley Point C project, they were praised for quickly meeting the stringent requirements of supplying a nuclear construction project.
