New EDF Energy tool helps businesses find energy savings to drive down costs

EDF Energy launches PowerNow in partnership with MeasureMyEnergy

  • PowerNow is a live energy monitoring technology designed to drive cost savings for businesses and reduce their carbon footprint

  • Businesses are able to view detailed real-time energy consumption, enabling them to find efficiencies and improve their performance

EDF Energy has partnered with MeasureMyEnergy (MME) to launch PowerNow, a solution that measures live data across a business’s entire estate to identify where energy is being consumed and potential savings.

The technology uses a cloud-based analytics platform that gives customers an itemised view of their energy consumption and spends across different sites, office floors, factory zones, and even specific lighting or heating circuits. This provides complete transparency on where and when energy is being used and can show return on investment through accurate measurement.

In addition, PowerNow can also act as an alert system to inform businesses if equipment starts using more energy than it should. This can be a sign of a maintenance issue and when this happens PowerNow can act as an early warning system before a full breakdown.

Vincent De Rul, Director of Energy Solutions at EDF Energy, said: “As the leading electricity provider to UK business, we’re delighted to offer our customers an innovative solution that gives them more control of their energy across their property portfolio.  Within our own business, we’ve installed PowerNow and expect to achieve a 15% annual saving on energy consumption at one of our buildings.

“Our partnership with MeasureMyEnergy will provide business managers with the means to save their companies money and drive down carbon emissions.”

Ben Murphy, Founder and Managing Director of MeasureMyEnergy, said: “We are very excited to be working with EDF Energy. We are passionate about being energy efficient and environmentally conscious, so it is great to be working with the UK’s largest producer of low-carbon electricity. Together we hope to give businesses the tools they need to reduce their carbon emission and save money.”

Notes to Editors:

Through the installation of PowerNow at EDF Energy’s Atlantic House site in Crawley, it was able to gain insight into the energy consumption of the four floor office space, constructed in the 1990s.

Using the online dashboard, more than 280 different points were monitored across the site in real time, primarily measuring machines, lighting and the heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

By implementing behaviour change and energy saving measures using this data, EDF Energy expect to achieve a 15% reduction in annual energy spend at this site.

About EDF Energy:

EDF Energy is the UK’s largest producer of low-carbon electricity, meeting around one-fifth of the country’s demand and supplying millions of customers and businesses with electricity and gas.

It generates electricity with eight nuclear power stations, more than 30 wind farms, one gas and two coal power stations, as well as with combined heat and power plants.

EDF Energy is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C. This will provide low carbon electricity to meet 7% of UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy, British industry, as well as boosting skills and education. EDF Energy also invests in a range of low carbon technologies including renewables and battery storage. It is applying research and development expertise to improve the performance of existing generation and developing the potential of new technologies.

The company provides gas and electricity for more than 5 million customer accounts and is the biggest supplier of electricity by volume in Great Britain and the largest supplier to British businesses. It offers innovative energy systems for commercial customers and digital innovation for customers at home. EDF Energy has also launched its own innovation accelerator, Blue Lab, which focuses on making customers’ lives easier.

About MeasureMyEnergy:

MeasureMyEnergy is the UK’s leading circuit-level energy measurement company. Their solution enables businesses to see when and where they spend their money on energy via their cloud-based analytics platform. This level of visibility allows businesses to uncover measurable and actionable insights, improve performance, with some companies saving in excess of 40% on their energy usage.

MeasureMyEnergy has developed a hardware and software solution that can measure electrical consumption at circuit-level and stream the data it reads, in real time, to a cloud-based portal. The data is converted into an easy to read format. The portal shows energy use in pounds and pence making energy savings easy to quantify. Real-time alerts can be set up to inform you when an appliance has been left on ‘out of hours’ or is using more energy than it should.

MeasureMyEnergy is a UK company. The design and production of the hardware is undertaken at their Southampton site, where they also design and develop their own software. They have demonstrated strong growth and are actively increasing their workforce and physical office space to meet increasing demand.
