The judging panel for this year’s EDF Regional Media Awards for the South West of England has been announced.

Celebrating their 10th anniversary, the awards topped more than 300 entries for the first time, across 20 categories ranging from digital, sport, television, radio and news print journalist to community campaign, website, radio programme, weekly and daily newspaper of the year.

The awards, sponsored by EDF, are held in association with holdthefrontpage.co.uk.

The judging panel includes experienced editors and broadcasters from the East of England; Steve Adams, picture editor at Archant Norfolk, Stacia Briggs, Eastern Daily Press senior writer and columnist, Colin Channon, editor, Basildon Echo, John Elworthy, editor, Cambs Times, Terry Hunt, editor, East Anglian Daily Times, Paul Linford, editor, HoldtheFrontPage, Tim Williams, managing editor, Archant Norfolk, Nick Woodhead, editor, Lynn News and Simon Wright, editor, ITV Anglia.

The judging takes place today (Friday May 23) at ITV Anglia in Norwich with the shortlist due to be announced next week.

Judge Nick Woodhead, editor of the Lynn News, said: “It’s important to recognise and celebrate the work of journalists in the regional media. They do a vital job across a range of platforms holding authority to account, celebrating local success and providing the latest news to their communities.

"What often starts as a great local news story can go on to have ramifications at a national level - that’s why we need to pay tribute to the very best in regional journalism and why the EDF awards matter.”

Shortlists for the 20 categories will be announced on Twitter @EDFEnergyComms and @journalism_news. The ceremony will be held in early July.
