It’s “Bratislava or Bust” for brave hearts in BraveKart

Bratislava or Bust (BoB) is an annual event organised by student adventures where participants drive to Bratislava, Slovakia, in a car of less than £500 in value.

With his friend from university Jason Jones, also 25, Matthew is taking on the challenge to raise money for Dementia UK, a charity close to his heart. So far, the dare-devil duo has raised over £900.

Matthew said: “Since my grandma was diagnosed with dementia over nine years ago, Dementia UK have been incredibly supportive, so I thought this would be a fun way to raise money for a great cause. I also can’t thank my friends, family and colleagues enough for all their generosity.”

Matthew is on the AMEC graduate scheme and works full-time on site at Dungeness B in the equipment reliability team.

“I’m very confident we’ll make it,” Matthew added. “I’ve been able to directly apply some of the knowledge from working in the team to the maintenance of the car. My main worry now is that it might get a bit hot with no air-conditioning!”

Steve Coates, plant manager at Dungeness B said, “I wish the boys the very best of luck. It’s great to see young people putting their engineering knowledge into worthwhile adventures like this.”
