Hunterston B team raise nearly £20,000 for breast cancer charity
Employees at EDF Energy’s Hunterston B power station have raised a fantastic £19,799 for Breast Cancer Now, the company’s national charity partner for the last three years.
Breast Cancer Now was chosen in 2016 as the company’s main charity partner following a national employee vote.
Overall, through employee fundraising and company match funding, EDF Energy across the UK has raised more than £600,000 for the charity.
Station Director, Paul Forrest, said: “I am incredibly proud of the consistent and sustained fundraising efforts by all employees at the Hunterston B site.
“They have made a huge effort in raising as much money as possible for Breast Cancer Now and worked hard in developing exciting and engaging fundraising events to raise much needed awareness and funds for the cancer charity.”
The team at Hunterston came up with a variety of ways to raise their contribution to the overall total. This included gate collections, a race night, cakes sales, a charity football game and some brave employees even took part in a sky-dive.
Lizzie Israeli, Senior Corporate Partnerships Manager at Breast Cancer Now, added: “We would like to say a massive thank you to EDF Energy and its staff for their unwavering support and enthusiasm throughout the last three years, in what has been a hugely successful partnership.
“Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. With 55,000 women and 370 men diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK, there has never been a more urgent need for our work.
“Thanks to the generosity and commitment of EDF Energy’s incredible workforce we can continue to fund world-class research to help us get one step closer to reaching our goal of ensuring that, by 2050, anyone who develops breast cancer will live and live well.”
