Hartlepool Visitor Centre’s first anniversary

PUPILS from Eldon Grove Academy school were invited to Hartlepool power station’s Visitor Centre’s first birthday celebrations.

Station director Simon Parsons was on hand to cut the cake and meet the youngsters.

He said: “Since we have opened the centre we have seen many thousands of people through the doors to see the exhibition.

“Importantly we have also seen many of those come for a look around the power station and see behind the scenes here at Hartlepool.

“The response we have had from our visitors has been very positive and I am delighted that so many people have decided to come here to find out about how we generate electricity.”

Schools, colleges and local groups have visited the centre over the last 12 months.

The centre has also played a key role in the recent Crucial Crew safety event for junior school pupils and also the station’s engineering mentoring scheme which has developed links with Hartlepool Sixth Form College and English Martyrs Sixth Form College.

The station offers a two-year mentoring scheme where pupils find out more about a potential career with EDF Energy.

Simon added: “The centre has become a real hub for the station’s community activities. It is also home to the Partnership for Nature who bring their visitors to the centre before heading out to nearby nature trails.”

The Visitor Centre is open Monday to Friday from 9-4pm. All plant tours require advanced booking, by contacting Louise Corser 01429 853582, email hartlepoolsitetours@edf-energy.com
