EDF Energy unveils UK’s first app which can read your meter by photo
A snapshot of the new app
EDF Energy has launched a UK-First cutting-edge app which will allow its customers to submit meter readings - using the camera in their smart phones.
The feature allows customers to take a photo of any electricity or gas meter in their property with their smart phone and submit the image directly to EDF Energy. Their energy account will be automatically updated which will ensure they are being billed correctly based on their level of actual usage rather than on estimates.
It is the first app capable of reading energy meters by photo to be launched in the UK.
The EDF Energy smart phone app can be used to track previous meter readings. Customers will still be able to submit their readings by typing it in if they prefer.
The app also enables customers to access instant rewards in Thank Yous, EDF Energy's customer reward programme. Thank Yous guarantees customers at least one prize every month. These range from special, celebratory experiences, money off electricity bills and discounts off top brands.
Customers can also read tips and advice on how to lower energy usage via the app.
Martin Lawrence, Managing Director of Energy Sourcing and Customer Supply, at EDF Energy said: “This is the latest in a line of innovations planned for our popular smart phone app.
“We know how busy many people are, so we’ve developed the Photo-Meter functionality to make it as easy as possible for customers to submit meter readings for their electricity and gas meters in just a few seconds. It’s another step towards our goal to help people feel better about their energy, and comes hot on the heels of our Blue +Price Promise tariffs which have really stepped away from the industry norm, providing customers with a feel better choice.
“By providing regular meter readings, customers can get more accurate bills, and only pay for the energy they use.
“The app also makes it easier for customers to take part in our Thank Yous rewards programme as well as gain access to a range of energy saving advice. More innovations are coming soon.”
