EDF Energy South West of England Media Awards 2014 contenders revealed

The EDF Energy South West of England Media Awards shortlist has been announced.

Swindon Advertiser has eight nominations, including Website of the Year, whilst the Bristol Post has seven, including Website and Daily Newspaper of the Year, with nominations also for Bristol News and Media, and The Western Daily Press.

Gloucestershire Media has eight nominations across its titles including the Gloucester Citizen and Gloucestershire Echo. The Western Morning News, Plymouth Herald, Express and Echo in Exeter, The Bath Chronicle and The Western Gazette each has five.

The EDF Energy Regional Media Awards, held in association with Hold the Front Page, are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year. They honour the best in journalism across Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Bristol, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.

This year there were more than 300 entries, across 20 categories.

Paul Linford, editor of Hold the Front Page, said: “We are proud to have been associated with these awards over the past nine years and grateful for the continued support and sponsorship of EDF Energy over that period.“

The South West region has really taken these awards to its heart over that period and once again it is great to see such a strong set of entries coming forward.”

Three titles have been shortlisted for Weekly Free Newspaper, the Midweek Herald in Devon, the Nailsea, Clevedon and Portishead Times and North Devon Gazette.

Shortlisted for Weekly Paid Newspaper are The Bath Chronicle, Cornish Guardian, Cornishman, North Devon Journal, Somerset County Gazette and Western Gazette.

The Bristol Post and the Western Morning News go head to head for the Daily Newspaper of the Year Award.ITV Westcountry, BBC West, Heart FM Westcountry, Hospital Radio Plymouth, BBC Bristol, Cornwall, Gloucestershire and Somerset are all in the running for broadcast awards, including Radio and Television News Programmes of the Year.

Bristol Post, SoGlos.com, Swindon Advertiser, TheExeterDaily.co.uk and The Plymouth Herald vie for Website of the Year, whilst Mid Devon Gazette, Gloucester Citizen and The West Briton compete for the Community Campaign award.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Bristol Hotel on Thursday July 3.
