EDF Energy runners raise £2,000 for local school
Over 100 runners from West Burton and Cottam power stations and the surrounding community took part in the fourth annual EDF Energy Power Surge.
The popular annual event raised £2,000 for Misterton Primary School. The local school is going to use the money to build a sensory garden for all children to use.
Now in its’ fourth year the Power Surge started at West Burton B and follow a 10K course through Sturton le Steeple, along country lanes down to the River Trent and finished back at the power station. There was a 3K fun run open for those keen to take on a shorter route.
Jason Bryant, acting Station Manager for West Burton B said, “It was really great to have so many visitors join us on the day. The weather was kind, and the event was as friendly and inclusive as ever. The power stations have been a feature of our local landscape for many years, so it is always nice to join us on the site. We are especially grateful to Retford Athletic Club and the volunteers from Misterton Primary School for their help and support on the day.”
The event was made all the more significant by special guest Bailey Matthews, who at the age of 11 has already received awards from Pride of Britain and also the Sports Personality of the Year Helen Rollason award for his sporting achievements.
