EDF Energy joins Which?’s Big Switch initiative
EDF Energy today announced it will take part in Which?’s Big Switch auction with its ground-breaking Blue +Price Promise tariff, which is currently the cheapest fixed priced product in Britain.1
The company praised the Big Switch for helping customers engage better with energy issues and encouraging people to seek out the best deals in the market.
EDF Energy’s highly competitive Blue +Price Promise September 2013 tariff, which it has put forward for the Big Switch auction for direct debit customers, is available to both new and existing customers. It builds on EDF Energy’s commitments to its customers to deliver fair, simple and transparent prices, including the pledge that it will only ever offer tariffs which are available to both new and existing customers.
The fixed tariff being offered - Blue +Price Promise - comes with a ground-breaking promise to let customers know if a rival supplier brings out a tariff which is £1 or more a week cheaper at typical consumption.2 Even better, there is no penalty for early exit so customers can choose to leave whenever they like.
Customers signing up to Blue +Price Promise will see their energy prices fixed until September 2013. Based on a national average of regional prices, the annual dual fuel bill for a customer on Blue +Price Promise, paying by monthly direct debit, will work out at £1,054.20 at typical consumption, making it the cheapest fixed priced deal in Britain and one of the cheapest deals across the entire market .
The tariff, which is available for dual fuel and electricity-only customers paying by credit or direct debit, also comes with a guarantee that the electricity a customer uses will be matched by low carbon electricity generated by nuclear power stations. 3

Customers will be informed via email within 10 working days of a supplier informing the company of a deal which is £1 or more a week cheaper at typical consumption (3,300 kWh of electricity and 16,500 kWh of gas per year for Standard meters; and 5,000 kWh of electricity for Economy 7 meters, as defined by Ofgem). The same information will also be published on the EDF Energy website and updated within two working days of a supplier informing the company of a deal which is £1 or more a week cheaper. Customers who are not online will get a letter within 10 working days. Customers will also be able to check at their own consumption levels on the EDF Energy website. Information is provided on the basis that where it is aware of them, EDF Energy has included discounts associated with other tariffs, for example Dual Fuel and Direct Debit discounts. However, it has not taken account of prompt pay discounts, welcome bonuses, other incentives or additional charges/discounts. Customers should therefore check with the relevant supplier for comprehensive product information.
3. Blue +Price Promise September 2013 comes with a guarantee that 100% of the electricity a customer uses will be matched by low carbon electricity generated by EDF Energy’s nuclear power stations. EDF Energy is appointing an external company to provide an audit of the company’s energy supply matching. Low-carbon electricity purchased for Blue customers is supplied into the National Grid.
