EDF Energy’s character Zingy brings some ‘Feel Better Energy’ to Brighton Pride

EDF Energy’s popular orange character Zingy has appeared in 130 venues across Brighton and London to celebrate the company’s support of this year’s Brighton Pride event.

Zingy-shaped drinks coasters have been distributed to bars, cafes and music venues across the two cities as part of a social media competition to win tickets to the ‘Icons in the Park’ Brighton Pride party on August 3.

Those who find the coasters will be invited to tweet a picture of themselves with Zingy in their most creative ‘singing pose’ using the hash-tag #SingWithZingy. The energy company will then judge and pick 30 winners who will each receive a pair of tickets, with the deadline for receiving photos falling at 2pm on July 31*.

The ‘singing’ theme of the competition links to EDF Energy’s Brighton Pride parade float, which this year will take the form of a karaoke mega-bus. More than 100 EDF Energy employees from across the country will accompany the float, as it belts out classic tunes throughout the parade.

The songs that will be played have been chosen by members of EDF Energy’s Inspire: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Supporters Network and all link to the Pride theme of ‘icons’.

In true karaoke style, the mega-bus will be adorned by large LCD screens displaying the words to the songs and wireless microphones will allow members of the public to join in with the singing as the float passes by. Members of staff will dance and sing along too, while they hand out goodies to parade spectators.

Wunderman, EDF Energy’s Direct Communications Agency have developed the internal and external campaign as well as designing the karaoke-themed Float.

EDF Energy has supported Brighton Pride for three years and is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion to its 15,000 employees nationwide, including the 2,500 who are based in East and West Sussex.

The company’s Diversity and Inclusion initiatives are multi-award winning. EDF Energy was recently announced as the Overall Winner of the Private Sector at the Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion and was also one of only four companies nationwide to receive the ‘Diversity Works for London Gold Standard’ in 2012.

This year’s Brighton Pride parade starts at 11am on Saturday August 3 at the Brighton Wheel, before it makes its way along the seafront and finishes at Preston Park.
