Earn while you learn: EDF seeks undergrads at Torness
Fantastic opportunities are currently on offer for undergraduates at EDF Energy’s Torness power station in East Lothian.
The company is currently looking to recruit students for its Industrial Placement scheme who are studying sandwich courses in areas such as engineering, nuclear science and commercial.
Industrial Placement opportunities are available at Torness, as well as EDF Energy’s other sites, and will be paid £15,000 pa.
Paul Winkle, station director, said: “We see the Industrial Placement position as a key role for us on station, as it allows us to work with an individual for a year and then hopefully see them back as part of the company’s successful graduate programme.”
Callum Ferguson, a Business Studies undergraduate from Edinburgh Napier University, currently at Torness said: "My placement has surpassed all expectations. Working in the HR department has not only supported the theory I have learnt at university, but developed my understanding of the skills necessary to perform professionally. There are a number of year in industry students at Torness at the moment, many of whom are undertaking technical roles, ranging from simulator development to environmental safety.
“I have also enjoyed opportunities to network with senior engineers, graduates and other students. The social life and being paid a wage are bonuses too! Even at this early stage of my year in industry, I can safely say that I will most definitely be applying for EDF Energy's Graduate scheme on completion of my degree.”
Jo Norman, of EDF Energy's Future Capability and Early Careers team said: "This is a natural route for undergraduates to join EDF Energy for a year and then see whether they want to pursue a long term career with us when they finish their studies."
The Industrial Placements will get an intensive training course at the start of their time with the company, before joining the site’s team where they will be given a full-time ‘learning mentor’ and lots of hands-on experience.
A number of EDF Energy locations will be taking on Industrial Placements including the company’s nuclear power stations and employee services centre.
