Contenders for the EDF Energy East of England Media Awards 2014 revealed

Archant Norfolk figures strongly, with the Eastern Daily Press nominated for website, community campaign, front page and daily newspaper of the year awards, and individuals shortlisted for news photographer, designer, digital and daily print journalist of the year. Archant also has titles shortlisted for weekly free and paid for newspaper of the year.


Newsquest Essex receive nominations across categories including weekly paid for newspaper, website and front page of the year, along with individuals shortlisted for newcomer, specialist journalist, designer, columnist, feature writer, weekly and daily print journalist of the year. Four of the six nominees for newcomer are at The Essex Chronicle.


Celebrating their 10th year, the EDF Energy Regional Media Awards held in association with Hold the Front Page, recognise the best in journalism across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.


The East Anglian Daily Times and Eastern Daily Press vie for the title of daily newspaper. Shortlisted for weekly free newspaper are Cambs Times, Essex Enquirer Series and The Hunts Post, whilst The Essex Chronicle, Harwich and Manningtree Standard and Welwyn and Hatfield Times compete for weekly paid for newspaper.


Radio news or current affairs programme of the year contenders are BBC Radio Suffolk, BOB FM Hertfordshire and Heart Four Counties.


BBC Inside Out and ITV News Anglia compete for television news or current affairs programme of the year.


In the running for best news website are www.edp24.co.uk www.essexchronicle.co.uk and www.pinkun.com


Judging this year’s entries were Ian Murray, editor of the Southern Daily Echo, Mark Waldron, editor of The News, Portsmouth, Christine Alsford, senior correspondent at ITV Meridian, Paul Linford, editor of HoldtheFrontPage.co.uk, Chris Britcher, editor of Kent on Sunday, Keith Redbourn, editor of the Hampshire Chronicle, Andy Steggall of Pergall Media and BBC South, Matt Graveling, BBC Radio Surrey reporter and Paul Collins, picture editor at the Southern Daily Echo.


All those shortlisted will be invited to an awards ceremony, to be held on Thursday February 26. Details of the ceremony will be sent via email this week.
