20 June 2019
Dear SSG Member,
As a member of our community, I believe it is important to keep you updated on any developments at Hunterston B Power Station.
As I explained in my letter of 18 March, following the core inspections and extensive modelling, the safety case providing the justification for return to service of Reactor 4 has been provided to ONR for their assessment. The ONR has been, completely independently, reviewing the case before deciding whether or not to approve for return to service. The ONR have now confirmed that they do not need any more information from EDF Energy to allow this process to complete.
Energy market rules require us to provide our most likely view of return to service dates. To support the time ONR will need to complete their assessment process we have adjusted our forecast return to service date for Reactor 4 to 22 July. The previous date was 24 June.
I can also confirm that we have now submitted the safety case for Reactor 3 to the ONR for assessment. On the basis of this development we have declared a return to service date for that unit of 1 October 2019. This is a change from 31 July 2019.
These dates present our most likely view of return to service. It is not possible for us to confirm with certainty how long this process will take; our top priority is that it’s completed with appropriate rigour.
I hope this information is useful to you as a member of the Site Stakeholder Group. Should you wish to ask any questions please feel free to ring the Station on 01294 826000 and ask for our Communications Officer, Nikki Thomson.
