Brighton’s digital community invited to get fit and win big for charity

EDF Energy is offering a £1000 charity prize to the team that burns the most energy through exercise during September, as part of Brighton Digital Festival’s first fitness challenge. Brighton’s digital community is being challenged to generate the equivalent of 42,000W of power, which is enough energy to light up Brighton Palace Pier for one minute.

FitFest Brighton launches on 1st of September and will track how far participants run, walk and cycle via the Strava app. The team that averages the furthest distance will win a £1000 donation to a local charity of their choice. Individuals or teams will be able to sign up at fitfestbrighton.com from the 1st September and track their progress via live leaderboards; with prizes presented at the beginning of October.

The FitFest Brighton platform is being created by EDF Energy, the UK’s largest producer of low-carbon electricity,  in collaboration with local digital agencies Pragmatic and ribot, and is inspired by EDF Energy’s ‘Fit Clubs’ – a competition it runs for employees as a fun way to increase health and fitness across its business.

Anne Mead, digital in-house agency manager at EDF Energy, said: “We’re challenging the local digital community to get exercising for a good cause and generate the same amount of energy required to light up the Palace Pier for one minute. To achieve this, teams will need to collectively clock up a whopping 41,000km on the FitFest Brighton hub."

Antony Ribot, co-founder of ribot, said: "The competitive and yet collaborative nature of FitFest Brighton is where the magic resides, small teams can compete equally with large as leader boards are based on average member distances which ensures a fair contest. Personally, I look forward to seeing team ribot high in the cycling rankings, but know that competition will be fierce.”

A bit of healthy competition never hurts and Pragmatic are certainly excited about getting competitive for FitFest Brighton, hopefully claiming the top of the leader boards!”
