Fun in the sun for Hunterston B families
The sun shone on Hunterston B, recently, as workers brought their families to the station for a fun day to celebrate their recent decommissioning achievement.
The festivities were put in place to mark the completion of defueling activities at the site, which were completed on time and on budget.
Over the weekend around 300 people visited the site to take part in a range of activities.
Staff and their families were able to enjoy a site tour followed by a trip to the Central Control Room simulator. They were then able to take part in a range of other activities, including bouncy castles, sitting in a police car, a fire engine and a flask transporter, using the fire hose and meeting a sniffer dog.
Station Director, Andy Dalling, said: “Following the success of the defueling activities, we wanted to organise an event that allowed our staff celebrate with their families. Families play a huge part in supporting people to be successful at work and we wanted to recognise that.”
“This is not something we do often so, as we move forward with the deconstruction mission, it may be the final chance staff get to share the site in its current form with their families.”
Four-year-old Cooper, who came to the event with his family, said: “I went to see where my Mummy and Daddy work and it was great. I had fun meeting the sniffer dog and sitting in the police car and I really enjoyed the ice lollies.”
The event followed a visit, earlier in the week, by EDF’s Executive Team, giving Chief Executive Simone Rossi and his team the chance to hear about how the station delivered the defueling mission successfully and how the site is preparing for transfer to Nuclear Restoration Services in Spring 2026.
