A look ahead: Our Latest Non-energy cost forecast

By Talk Power Team | Posted March 02, 2018

A new year brings a new Non-Energy Cost (NEC) forecast – read our latest edition of Monitor magazine, for our view out to 2019. You can also watch James Chaplin, one of our Market Analysts, talk through the headlines from the latest forecast.

Here’s our key highlights to look out for this year:

  • As the TRIAD season ends and we start to look ahead to spring, one thing remains consistent - Non Energy Costs (NEC’s) continue to rise and now make up around 60% of your energy bill. Now more than ever it’s important to get to grips with these costs as well as the challenges and opportunities they present.

  • We have a lot more certainty on TNUoS, DUoS and RO, with the actual costs for 2018 now being known. The good news is this hasn’t had a big impact on our forecasts and these costs are out turning as we’d predicted.

  • We also now have greater certainty on the Capacity Market Supplier Charges (CMSC) and have updated our forecast with the majority of the inputs to this cost now being confirmed. Although there could be further movements on this charge, they should be minimal.

  • The BSUoS forecast has trended upwards marginally, although the impact of this will depend on the times at which you use your energy. We’ve also seen the introduction of the HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) link which should help to control these costs moving forwards
