EDF Energy is delighted to partner with Low Carbon to provide route to market services for the Birch Park Solar Farm featuring a 30MW 2-hour battery, co-located with solar PV in Colchester, Essex. The site will go live in January 2025 and is another step towards the UK’s net zero target by showcasing the deployment of renewable generation together with Battery Storage. EDF will enhance the value of the Solar PV system by intelligently optimising the Battery Storage asset to maximise revenues from wholesale markets while supporting resilience through flexibility and balancing services.

Head of Power Management at Low Carbon, Marco Verspuij, said: “We are delighted to have signed this optimisation agreement with EDF, who will act as a key partner supporting us on our journey to build renewable energy infrastructure at scale.

Stuart Fenner, Director of WMS Commercial at EDF, said “We are delighted to be partnering with Low Carbon in their portfolio of optimisation agreements. Battery storage plays a huge part in the road to net zero and helping to decarbonise our energy system and this is a major milestone for co-located projects.”
