What is the Demand Flexibility Service?

The Demand Flexibility Service will run from November 2023 to March 2024 and will pay your business to reduce your electricity consumption at times of peak demand.

Why take part in the Demand Flexibility Service?

Not only will your business be paid for consuming less, but it will also benefit from reduced energy and non-energy costs. You'll also be supporting to balance and decarbonise the electricity system this winter.

Businesses can participate if:

  • They have half-hourly settlement metering
  • The meter points participating in the service are not participating in any other demand flexibility or balancing service

You can sign up to participate throughout the service duration but the earlier you sign up, the more opportunities you're likely to have to participate in events.

Events could take place any time from November 2023 to March 2024.

The electricity system operator (ESO) has committed to 6 Test events before the end of December 2023, with the potential for more events before March 2024.

ESO could notify EDF of an event either within day or day ahead. EDF will then notify customers as soon as possible.

The incentive could differ between events and will be detailed in the event notification email.

There is no penalty should you sign up to the Demand Flexibility Service and then decide not to participate in an event(s).

You will be able to opt out of future event notifications at any time during the service.
