I don’t need an electricity meter anymore. Can you remove it for me?
There is a charge of £80 for having an electric meter removed, which is payable prior to confirming the appointment date. First of all you’ll need to contact your area’s distribution network operator. They own the cables and towers that bring electricity to homes and businesses. You can find their details on the National Grid website.
What happens next
The network operator will arrange for the cables and service to be disconnected. They’ll also contact us to ask that we remove the meter within ten working days. We’ll then get in touch with you to fix an appointment for this (you’ll need to be at the property for the appointment even if the meter’s outside).
Once we’ve removed the meter, we’ll leave the supply cable secured (the external cable which takes the supply from the mains to the property).
