Change meter type
How do I change the type of meter I have?
You should be able to get a new smart meter, at no extra cost to you. We’re rolling out smart meters to EDF customers across the country, and aim to give all EDF customers a smart meter.
The easiest way to see if you can get one yet – and book your installation – is to go to 'Smart meters' in MyAccount.
The only reasons you might not be able to get one is if we're not installing in your area yet, or a smart meter won't work with your current set-up.
You might find you have to change tariff when you get your new smart meter.
How do I get a smart PAYG meter?
If you already have a smart meter, you just need to ask us to switch it over to pay as you go mode.
The only reason you might not be able to do this is if your smart meter isn't compatible with our PAYG system.
Go to Pay As You Go in MyAccount
I'd like a new meter – but I don't want a smart meter
We're sorry, but we have very few traditional credit or prepayment meters left. We're only installing them when someone's had a meter exchange letter (see box below), and a smart meter isn't suitable for their home.
If you'd like a new meter, it'll probably have to be a smart meter.
Go to Smart Meters in MyAccount to book your smart meter installation.
Go to Pay As You Go in MyAccount, if you'd like a smart Pay As You Go meter.
I'd like to change my Economy 7 meter to a standard credit meter

- Get in touch with your operator to get a new electricity supply number; this is also known as a Meter Point Administration Number or MPAN (skip step 2 if UK Power Networks is your operator)
- Call us on 0333 200 5117(1) to arrange the installation of your new landlord electricity meter
I'd like to install a landlord gas meter
Sorry, we don't install landlord gas meters. Please call your local network distributor/operator to find out how you can get one installed.
