Budget Direct Debit: What happens after making an extra payment

We can give you the answer for your type of account, once we know what your account number starts with. You can find your account number in MyAccount, and on your EDF bills, emails and letters.

My account number starts with '67'

What happens after you make an extra payment will depend on when your next Direct Debit review is due.

When is my Direct Debit review?

1. My next review is less than a month away

  • Your payments won't change until after your Direct Debit review

  • At your review, we look at your extra payment – and at your latest energy use, account balance, and charges or price changes since your last review

  • We then let you know if your monthly payments need to go up, down or stay the same to keep them on track (they need to cover your energy costs for the year)

2. My next review is more than a month away

  • We use your extra payment to reduce the amount you pay each month as soon as we can

  • We spread your extra payment across your payments for the rest of the year – for example:
  1.        You pay an extra £30
  2.        You have three more payments to make this Direct Debit year
  3.        We reduce each of these three payments by £10

  • We let you know what your new monthly payment is, and when it starts
