The climate change challenge for marine-powered energy

Marine power is already a low-carbon technology for generating electricity.

The challenge

The carbon footprint of a tidal turbine – how much greenhouse gas it emits during its lifetime – including construction and maintenance – is about 15 grams of carbon dioxide-equivalent for each kilowatt-hour of electricity it generates (gCO2e/kWh), according to UK Government statistics.

The solution

Marine power is already a low-carbon technology for generating electricity.
