Welcome to the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) application form

About Smart Export Guarantee

Smart Export Guarantee is a scheme, set up by the Government offering customers a financial incentive for generating their own electricity. EDF Energy is offering our Export Variable tariff(s) which rewards customers for every kWh of electricity exported back to the grid through eligible renewable technologies, including:

  • solar photovoltaic (PV)
  • wind turbines
  • hydro
  • anaerobic digestion
  • micro CHP generators

Completing the form

The form should only take a few minutes to complete. Throughout the application you will be asked for the following information, so having this to hand will help speed up the process:

  • MPAN number
  • company/charity registration number
  • VAT registration number (if applicable)
  • MCS certificate (EN45011 or ENISO/IEC)
  • export MPAN number (if applicable)
  • your bank details for payment instructions

Once you have completed the online application we will verify your application for the eligibility of SEG payments. You can either:

What happens once you’ve submitted your application?

If this is your first application we will need to request and register your export MPAN. As this is a process that includes third parties we cannot guarantee how long this will take therefore we will be in touch with you to take your opening reading when this is completed.

Don’t worry, the date that we received your application is the date you have secured your tariff rate, you’re first payment will be made after we’ve completed your registration.

Once you are registered we will send you your Terms Sheet and welcome pack and request your opening meter reading.

Payments

Once your installation is fully registered we will request a meter reading from you. This will be the reading from which we start making payments. Following this, we will contact you once a quarter to request a meter reading which can be submitted using our online reading form. Once we’ve validated your export reading, we’ll provide your payment.

A micro-business is defined by the government as a company that meets one of the following criteria:

  • Consumes no more than 100,000kWh of electricity a year, or
  • Consumes no more than 293,000kWh of gas a year, or
  • Employs fewer than 10 people (or their full-time equivalent) and has an annual turnover or balance sheet of no more than €2 million.

Please note

If you decide to opt out of FiT export to join SEG, you will not be able to opt back into FiT export for 12 months.
