Supporting our customers and employees with Dementia awareness

Over the last 12 months, we have shared bespoke awareness sessions in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society across our customer service sites. Having a basic understanding of how dementia affects peoples’ lives can make a huge difference, both to the experience of our employees, customers and those who provide support for them. 

​We are proud that over 2,550 of our employees have signed up to become a Dementia Friend. Dementia Friends help by raising awareness and understanding and making positive change so that people living with dementia can continue to live in the way they want.

Throughout the initiative, we found that many of our employees already support someone with dementia and the awareness sessions enabled them to support them more effectively. We want to be known as an industry leader for customers who find themselves in vulnerable situations, ensuring we offer them the best possible service. Our employees’ enthusiasm to get involved has inspired us to continue to raise awareness and remain focused on being dementia-friendly.

Ann Jones, Senior Programme Partnerships Officer from the Alzheimer’s Society, shares her thoughts on why she is so pleased with the partnership:

“We’re delighted so many EDF Energy employees are becoming Dementia Friends. There are currently 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK and we all have a part to play in making our communities more dementia-friendly. EDF Energy employees join 2.8 million Dementia Friends across England and Wales, helping to reduce stigma and promote inclusion for colleagues, customers and loved ones affected by the condition. Dementia is one the greatest challenges we face in society today, a challenge we cannot turn our backs on. Thank you!”
